This series of one-hour workshops held on Tuesday nights in South Hobart is a great opportunity to learn Afro-Brazilian drum rhythms that have been translated onto West African drums and other percussion instruments.
Learn basic drum, bell and shaker patterns that travel through Batucada or ‘Street Samba’ rhythms. Learn some simple call-and-response phrases. We’ll put it all together and ride the groove!

This course will develop your skills as a drummer and increase your confidence in participating in drum circles and community rhythm events etc. Your sense of rhythm and coordination will improve and you’ll experience the uplifting and deeply satisfying activity of group drumming.

Your Teacher: Tara Tucker has studied with drumming ensembles and master drummers in several West African countries. She also has experience in Japanese taiko drumming, Haitian, Afro-Brazilian and Afro-Cuban styles of percussion. Tara has taught djembe and dundun all over the world, including Australia, the US, Indonesia, Japan, India, China & Vietnam. She is one of only 2 Australian djembe teachers officially endorsed by the legendary djembe master Mamady Keïta (Guinea).
